Book Review: Consider the Birds by Jennifer Grant
⭐Netgalley Read ⭐
Rating: ★★★★★ 5 star read
Consider the Birds was my first Christian picture book—and what a lovely surprise it turned out to be! Recommended for ages 3–7, this gem is part of the Consider series and invites young readers (and grown-ups too!) to look closely at the beauty and lessons hidden in nature.
The first thing that drew me in was the Spring-like feel of the book. The illustrations are clean, crisp, and artistic, with vibrant pops of colour that bring each bird to life. There’s a gentle warmth and friendliness to the pages—like sitting in a sun-dappled garden surrounded by feathered friends.
Each bird is portrayed with care, not just in appearance, but also in sound, behaviour, and personality. I especially appreciated the subtle character cues—like the boldness of the blue jay or the peaceful presence of the doves. These details make it more than just a picture book; it’s a quiet invitation to observe and reflect.
At the heart of the story is a powerful message drawn from Matthew 6:26:
“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap… yet your heavenly Father feeds them.”
Through simple words and stunning visuals, the book gently reminds us that God provides. If He takes care of the birds, how much more will He care for us? I loved this truth woven in so naturally. There’s also a beautiful echo of community and generosity in how the birds share seeds—an invitation for us to share our blessings with others.
Whether you’re new to Christian books or already love them, Consider the Birds is a peaceful, hope-filled read that’s perfect for bedtime, nature walks, or moments of wonder. A sweet and meaningful addition to any young reader's shelf.
